Sounds of the 70s with Johnnie Walker Special Guests: Philly Soul legends Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff
The very best mix of music from one incredible decade, all lovingly curated by Johnnie. His guests this week are two giants of Seventies soul music, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Between them, they wrote and produced so many classic hits for the legendary Philadelphia International Records, and the label is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary with a whole host of reissues and rarities. Johnnie will be chatting with the duo about their phenomenal careers, direct on the line from the U.S., and playing a handful of their finest tracks. Hits from 1977 feature as both the latest addition to Johnnie’s Jukebox, thanks to loyal listener Pamela Fairclough in Carlisle, and also our newest selection for the One Of A Kind slot, chosen by Denise Firth in Amersham. A look through the archives at This Week In Music features birthdays for a former teen pin-up, and a great British singer-songwriter, as well as a stand-out hit from a classic album that was released this week exactly 45 years ago. Plus we’ve more of your stories, requests and dedications, so get in touch anytime for a mention on one of our future shows: walker@bbc.co.uk And make sure you never miss out on your favourite Sounds Of The Seventies programme every week by hitting the ’Subscribe’ button now on BBC Sounds, and it’s then ready for you to listen to or download whenever you like.
